Yay! More Marcie, or Pink Hoodie as I will always know her.
I’ll have to say I’m a little confused. You’ve really developed Marcie’s style as it differs from your other character drawings. The panels #2-#3 seems weirdly regressed. The lack of a nose and the weird position of the visible eye and mouth confuses me, am I looking at her face sideways? I can’t see how her face is supposed to be represented here and it ends up looking like a smiley, a caricature of the human face more than anything. Her nose is such a good detail, and its absence bothers me.
I don’t know what the characters are talking about. What savings are referred to? It doesn’t seem natural that the guy in blue just straight up tellsMarcie “I’m gonna do this now, I don’t believe you because…”. There’s a great Hitchcock quote about how characters in a movie should never talk about what the movie is about – that could be applied here, Marcie shouldn’t talk about what she’s actually doing, she should make up excuses. Guy in Blue should not talk about why he is arresting her, he should talk about how her presence annoy him or something.
Just some random thoughts, hope they make coherent sense.
We already talked about most of it IRL, but I’ll explain what’s happening just in case another confused reader drops by:
The Norwie justice system is very simple. A crime nets a fine, and if you don’t pay, you get thrown out (see strip 68 where this is explained). What Mick is doing here is checking her savings account and deciding that a crime on the level of “assault on officer” is above her pay level. So fining her with that crime means she will be thrown out of Norwell (before she can tattle).
Hope that clears up whatever I didn’t manage to convey in-strip :)
Thanks again for the critique! It’s always so helpful to get another pair of eyes on the story.
